In Honor of Hickory

Hickory was my best friend for 15 years. I adopted him at 6 months old, and from there he went through every up and down life threw at me — moving across multiple states, hard years, good years, all of it — and he never once left my side. No matter how bad a day I was having, he always found a way to make me smile again. Losing him this year has been one of the hardest things I've ever gone through, and I miss him terribly.

In Honor of Ronnie

Three years before Hickory, I lost my cat Ronnie at 14 years young. People are always surprised when I tell them Ronnie was more like a dog than a cat — he loved cuddling, curling up next to me, and just being a loving, constant presence. He didn't do anything flashy; he just showed up, every day, in his own quiet way.

About Nicole

I'm Nicole. Outside of running Hickory's Haven, I work with my family's business, Byrne Financial Freedom, based in Fort Myers, where we support clients wherever they are. Before that, I spent over a decade as an elementary school teacher — and between the two, I've built a career around the same things: patience, reliability, and genuinely taking care of the people (and now pets) I work with.

Whether it's a client I'm supporting at Byrne Financial Freedom or a dog I'm walking for Hickory's Haven, you're getting someone who shows up, communicates clearly, and treats what you've trusted me with like it matters — because it does.

When I'm not working or walking dogs, I'm usually thinking about Hickory and Ronnie, and how much they taught me about showing up for the people and pets who matter.

Guardians of FL Animal Rescue

I am beginning volunteer work with GOFAR here in Fort Myers, a no-kill rescue that cares for over 100 animals at any given time and works to place them in permanent, loving homes.

Patty Baker Humane Society

Since 1960, they've helped over 110,000 pets find homes across Southwest Florida.
